What is a corner sofa?

A corner sofa — also called an L-shaped sofa, corner settee or chaise sofa — is designed to fit into the corner of a room. One section runs along one wall; a chaise section extends along the adjacent wall at a right angle. The result is more seating than a straight three-seater, better use of dead corner space, and a natural room divider in open-plan layouts.

The L-shape configuration seats four to five adults on a standard design and six to eight on a larger U-shape. This style of sofa is the most popular in UK homes and our highest-traffic category.

How to measure — step by step

Getting the measurements right before ordering saves the hassle of a return. Follow these five steps:

Step 2 — Walkway clearanceYou need 80cm of clear floor at the end of the chaise. Measure from where the chaise end will sit to the nearest door, wall or furniture. Step 3 — Room depthMeasure from the sofa wall to any furniture or wall opposite. Allow 80–100cm of clear space in front for comfortable use. Step 4 — Access routesL-shaped sofas are delivered in sections. Measure your front door (UK standard: 76cm), hallway and room doorway. Step 5 — Match dimensionsThe sofa’s main section should be at least 20cm shorter than the wall it sits against to allow clearance at each end.

Left hand or right hand — which do I need?

Orientation is always described as you stand facing the front of the sofa. If the chaise is on your left as you face it, it is left hand facing (LHF). If it is on your right, it is right hand facing (RHF).

To work out which you need: stand in your room at the corner position, face into the room. Which wall do you want the chaise to run along? Wall to your left → order RHF. Wall to your right → order LHF. Not sure? Call us on 02476 705 600 with a photo — we confirm orientation for customers every day.

Which fabric is right for your household?

The fabric is a permanent decision. You cannot change the upholstery without re-covering the entire sofa. This is worth getting right first time.

Colours — what sells and why

Black leather / Leather AireThe most practical choice. Black hides marks and pet hair better than any other colour. Silver and platinum fabricPopular on high-back and U-shape designs. Suits contemporary open-plan rooms. Brown and tan leatherThe warmest choice. Genuine tan leather develops a beautiful patina with age.

Build quality and construction

Kiln-dried hardwood frame

All designs use a kiln-dried hardwood frame with reinforced corner joints. The frame warranty is included with every purchase.

High-density foam cushions

Seat cushions use a high-density foam core (35–40kg/m³) wrapped in fibre for shape retention. Higher-density foam maintains its form significantly longer under daily use.

UK fire safety compliance

All sofas meet UK fire safety regulations (BS 5852), including the cigarette and match test requirements. This is a legal requirement for all residential furniture sold in the UK.

Upholstery durability

Our chenille fabrics are rated to 25,000+ Martindale rubs. Leather Aire is tested to equivalent durability standards at all seat and arm contact points.

Recliner L-shaped sofas

Recliner configurations are one of our fastest-growing categories. Each seat reclines independently — one person can be fully reclined while the person next to them sits upright. Electric versions are operated by a button or handset. Manual versions use a side lever. Electric designs need a power socket within 1.5–2m of the sofa position.

Corner sofa beds

An L-shaped sofa bed has a fold-flat or pull-out mattress mechanism built into the chaise. They provide practical occasional sleeping space without a separate guest bed. Our range covers standard fabric versions, luxury designs with memory foam mattresses, and black designs in leather and fabric.

Frequently asked questions

What is a corner sofa?

A corner sofa is an L-shaped sofa designed to fit into the corner of a room. One section runs along one wall; a chaise section runs along the adjacent wall at a right angle. Also called a corner settee or chaise sofa.

What size room do I need for an L-shaped sofa?

A standard L-shaped design needs at least 260cm on the main sofa wall and 185cm on the chaise wall, with 80cm of walkway clearance at the chaise end. A room of approximately 350cm x 300cm is the practical minimum for a standard design.

What is left hand facing and right hand facing?

Orientation is described as you stand facing the front of the sofa. Left hand facing (LHF) means the chaise is on your left. Right hand facing (RHF) means the chaise is on your right. Stand in your room corner facing into the room to work out which you need.

Which fabric is best for a corner sofa with pets?

Leather Aire is the most practical for households with pets — wipe-clean and pet hair brushes off the surface. Tight-weave chenille is the best fabric option. Avoid velvet, which holds pet hair, and loose weave fabrics that cats and dogs can snag.

How long does delivery take?

Most in-stock designs are delivered within 7–10 working days to England and Wales. Delivery is free on every order. You choose a specific date at checkout and receive a 2-hour arrival window confirmation the day before.

Is 0% finance available on corner sofas?

Yes. 0% interest-free finance is available from £499 with 12, 24 or 36 month terms. Apply at checkout. Subject to status.

Do L-shaped sofas come apart for delivery?

Yes. L-shaped sofas are delivered in two to four sections and assembled in your room by our two-person team. Each section is designed to pass through a standard UK front door (76cm). Call us on 02476 705 600 before ordering if you have narrow access.

Can I get a corner sofa with a recliner?

Yes. Our recliner L-shaped designs are available in electric (button-operated) and manual (lever-operated) versions. Each seat reclines independently. Electric versions need a power socket within 1.5–2m of the sofa position.
