Corner Sofas

What is a corner sofa?A corner sofa is a sofa that turns a right angle, so the seating runs along two walls instead of one. Designs that turn once are also called L shape sofas; those that turn twice are U shape corner sofas. Ours come in fabric and Leather Aire, in six colours.

What is a corner sofa?

A corner sofa seats along two walls from a single frame. The section that turns the corner is what separates it from a straight sofa: there is no gap between two pieces, so the seating runs continuously and a family can sit together. In most rooms that gives you one or two more usable seats in the same footprint.

Designs that turn once are often called L shape sofas; designs that turn twice, wrapping three sides of a seating area, are U shape corner sofas. The sections below cover left hand against right hand, the shapes and sizes carried, the covers and colours, and the reclining option.

Left hand or right hand corner sofas

Stand in front of the sofa and look at it: on a left hand corner sofa the longer run of seating extends to your left, and on a right hand corner sofa it extends to your right. Some manufacturers describe this from the seated position, so the configuration is stated on each product page. On most designs the corner is fixed once built, so confirm it on 02476 705 600 before you order.

U shape corner sofas

A U shape design adds a second return, so the seating wraps three sides of a coffee table. It suits larger square rooms and open-plan spaces where the sofa has to define the seating area rather than sit against a wall. It needs clearance on three sides and the sections are bigger, so measure the access route as carefully as the room. The full choice is in our u shaped corner sofas collection.

Sizes and configurations

Sizes run from compact corner designs through to large U shape groupings, in lower modern shapes and deeper, more casual ones. Some finish with a full arm and some with an open end, which is armless and easier to stretch out along; if that suits you, compare the open end corner sofas. Dimensions vary between models, so check the figures on each product page against your room.

Fabric and Leather Aire covers

Most of the range is upholstered in woven fabric, which is warm to sit on and forgiving of everyday marks and pet hair. The rest is covered in Leather Aire, a hard-wearing leather-look material that wipes clean with a damp cloth and holds an even colour across large panels. It is not genuine leather and we do not describe it as such, so if genuine hide is what you want, speak to our team first.

Colours available

Corner sofas here are carried in cream, beige, silver, grey, brown and black, with the colours available shown on each product page. Cream and beige lift a room short of natural light but show marks sooner. Grey is the most versatile mid-tone, silver reads cooler under artificial light, brown suits wood floors, and black is the most forgiving of daily use.

Reclining corner sofas

A reclining action is available on a single design in this collection rather than across the range, so check that model's availability before planning around it. The reclining seats normally sit in the straight run rather than in the corner, and the backrest needs clearance behind it — pushed tight to a wall, a recliner will not open fully.

How to choose the right corner sofa

A corner sofa is usually the largest thing in the room, and the hand cannot be changed once it is built. Work through these questions in order.

Which hand does your room need?

Stand where the sofa will go and look at the room as a visitor would. Note the doorway, the wall you want left clear, where the television sits and anything fixed such as a radiator. The corner should fill the space you are targeting, not block a walkway or a door swing.

Will it fit, and can you get it in?

Measure both walls, then mark the footprint on the floor with masking tape and leave it a day to check that walkways still work and doors still open; around 60cm of clear space on a regular route is a sensible minimum. Then measure the narrowest point on the way in — front door, hallway, stair turn or landing — allowing extra, as sections arrive packaged.

Do you need it to sleep guests?

If the room doubles as occasional guest accommodation, a corner sofa bed does both jobs without a second piece of furniture. The mattress is thinner than a bed mattress, so it suits occasional nights, and you need clearance in front to lay it out. Convertible designs are in our corner sofa beds range.

How much back support do you want?

A lower back keeps sightlines open in a smaller room, while a higher back supports the head and shoulders and suits taller adults. Cushion fill matters too: foam seats hold their shape and feel firmer, fibre-filled backs feel softer. If support is the priority, start with our high back corner sofas.

Which cover suits your household?

Fabric gives you more choice of texture and tone and feels warmer to sit on. Leather Aire is the easier surface to keep clean, which suits families and pet owners, though it should be kept away from radiators and cleaned without solvents. The leather-look designs are grouped in our leather corner sofas range.

Would a straight sofa suit the room better?

A corner design only pays off if the corner it needs is free. In a narrow room, or one with a door or bay window in the wrong place, a straight sofa with a separate chair is often the more usable layout — compare our 3 seater sofas before you commit.

Durability and maintenance

A corner sofa takes more daily use than a straight one because more people sit on it, and the corner seat takes the most. A little routine care keeps it looking even.

  • Plump and rotate loose cushions so wear spreads evenly instead of settling in the corner seat.
  • Vacuum fabric with a soft brush attachment, and blot spills with a clean dry cloth rather than rubbing.
  • Wipe Leather Aire with a damp cloth, avoiding solvent cleaners and wipes containing alcohol.
  • Keep the sofa out of long spells of direct sun so the colour stays even.

Check the care label that comes with the sofa, and test any cleaning product on a hidden patch first.

Frequently asked questions about corner sofas

What is a corner sofa?
A corner sofa seats along two walls from a single frame, using a corner of the room that would otherwise sit empty. Designs that turn once are also called L shape sofas, and designs that turn twice are U shape corner sofas. Ours come in fabric and Leather Aire, in six colours.
What is the difference between a left hand and a right hand corner sofa?
Stand in front of the sofa and look at it: on a left hand corner sofa the longer run of seating extends to your left, and on a right hand corner sofa it extends to your right. Some manufacturers describe this from the seated position, so check the configuration on the product page or call 02476 705 600 to confirm.
Can the corner be swapped from left hand to right hand after delivery?
On most designs the corner is fixed in place and cannot be swapped once the sofa is built, so the hand you choose at the point of order is the hand you keep. Check the configuration on the product page, or call our team on 02476 705 600 and we will confirm it for you.
What is a U shape corner sofa?
A U shape corner sofa turns twice rather than once, so the seating wraps three sides of a coffee table. It suits larger square rooms and open-plan spaces and needs clearance on three sides. The sections are large, so check hallways, doorways and stair turns before ordering.
Are your corner sofas available in leather?
Some designs are upholstered in Leather Aire, a hard-wearing leather-look upholstery material with an easy-clean surface. It is not genuine leather and we do not describe it as such. If you are looking specifically for genuine hide, speak to our team on 02476 705 600 before ordering.
What colours are corner sofas available in?
Corner sofas are carried in cream, beige, silver, grey, brown and black, with the colours available shown on each product page. Cream and beige lift a darker room but show marks sooner, while grey, brown and black are more forgiving of everyday use.
Are reclining corner sofas available?
A reclining action is available on a single design in this collection rather than across the range, so check that model's availability before planning around it. Leave clearance behind the reclining seat so the backrest can travel fully, and call 02476 705 600 if you would like the mechanism explained.
What size room do I need for a corner sofa?
This depends on the design. Measure both walls the sofa will sit against, mark the footprint on the floor with masking tape, and leave around 60cm of clear space on any route people use regularly. Compare those figures against the dimensions on the product page before ordering.
Can a corner sofa be used as a guest bed?
A corner sofa bed converts for occasional guests without needing a second piece of furniture in the room. The mattress is thinner than a bed mattress, so it suits occasional nights rather than permanent use, and you need clearance in front to lay it out. Check the open and closed dimensions before ordering.
What are the delivery options on a corner sofa?
Delivery is free to England & Wales and most orders arrive within 7–10 working days, brought in by our own two-person team to a ground-floor room, access permitting. You will get a confirmed delivery date once your order is placed, and old sofa removal can be added at checkout.
Can I spread the cost of a corner sofa?
Yes. At checkout you can choose PayPal Pay in 3, Klarna Pay in 3 or Pay in 30, Clearpay's four interest-free fortnightly payments, or DivideBuy for a longer-term plan. These options are interest-free and subject to credit check, and what appears at checkout depends on each provider's own eligibility criteria.
Can I return a corner sofa if I change my mind?
Yes. There is a 14-day change of mind returns window, so the sofa can go back if it does not suit once it is in the room. Because a corner sofa is a large item, keep the packaging where you can if you think it might go back. Call 02476 705 600 and we will arrange collection.
