What a riser recliner chair is

A riser recliner chair is a powered armchair that moves in two separate ways. The recline action lowers the backrest and raises the footrest so you can sit back. The rise action tilts the whole chair forward and lifts the seat towards standing height. Both motions run from an electric motor and are worked from a handset on a cable, so nothing has to be pushed or levered by hand, and the chair stops wherever you release the button. What is in the range

The collection lists 21 chairs across three ranges, Kingsbury, Bilbury and Hunson, in two upholstery types and five colours. Nineteen are in stock and two are sold out. Every chair shares the same rise and recline action, so choosing between the ranges is a question of finish and colour rather than function. Genuine leather is stated in the product title for most of the leather chairs, and where a title says only Leather we describe it as leather rather than asserting a grade. How the rise and recline action works

The handset has separate controls for the two motions, so the backrest and footrest can be set independently of the rise action. Hold a button to move the chair and release it to stop, which means you can settle on any position between fully upright and fully reclined rather than picking from fixed stops. The motor runs from a mains socket, so the chair needs to sit within reach of one, and the cable should be routed behind or beside the chair rather than across a walkway. Materials and construction

Two upholstery types run through the collection. Genuine leather is confirmed in the titles of most of the leather chairs, and it wipes down easily, ages with a little variation in grain and shade between hides, and suits a room where the chair sees daily use. Fabric is the softer, warmer surface and is the quieter choice in a room that already has a lot going on. Choosing a colour

Five colours run through the collection, though not every colour appears in every range. Black is the most forgiving for marks and gives a room a definite anchor. Cream keeps a space light and works where natural light is limited, at the cost of showing marks more readily. Grey and light grey are the middle ground: quiet, easy to place, and the most forgiving of dust. Tan is the warm option and is the one currently affected by the two sold-out chairs. Sizes and what to measure

These are single-seat chairs, so the upright footprint is compact, but the working footprint is not. Allow clear floor in front for the footrest to come up, and clearance behind for the backrest to tilt, unless a specific model is described as a wall-hugger design. Measure the space with both allowed for rather than the upright dimensions alone. On the route into the room, measure the width and height of every doorway, hallway, stair turn and landing, plus lift dimensions if you are above the ground floor. Size and space

Start with the floor area, including the reclined depth and the clearance behind. If the chair has to sit against a wall, check whether the model you want is a wall-hugger design before assuming it will fit.

Material

Genuine leather wipes clean and suits daily use; fabric is softer underfoot and warmer to sit on. Colour follows from that choice, since leather and fabric are not offered in the same five colours across every range.

Caring for your chair

Care depends on the upholstery. For genuine leather, dust with a dry cloth, blot spills rather than rubbing them, keep the chair out of direct sunlight and away from radiators, and use only the product recommended in the care instructions supplied with it. For fabric, vacuum gently with an upholstery attachment to lift dust out of the weave, and blot spills from the outside of the mark inwards. Delivery

Delivery is free across England and Wales, handled by our own two-person team to the ground floor, and usually takes 7–10 working days.
