This is our range of leather recliner chairs — single-seat armchairs that recline, rather than sofas. There are seven to choose from across the Valencia, Renato and Amarien designs, in black, cream, grey and tan, with a mix of manual and electric (power) reclining. Because it's a focused range, the main decisions are the reclining type you want, the colour, and the leather grade (see below). What Is a Recliner Chair?

A recliner chair is a single-seat armchair with a mechanism that lets the backrest tilt back and, usually, a footrest rise, so you can move from sitting upright to a relaxed, reclined position. It's designed for one person — ideal for reading, watching television or resting — and takes up much less space than a reclining sofa. The chairs in this collection recline either manually or electrically (see the next section), and all are upholstered in leather. Reclining chairs need clearance behind and in front to open fully, which is worth planning for before you buy.

Manual or Electric Recliner?

The chairs come with one of two reclining actions, and which suits you is mostly about preference and where the chair will sit.

If you don't want to worry about a socket or cable, a manual recliner is the simpler choice; if you'd prefer effortless, adjustable reclining, an electric one is worth it. Any extra powered features vary by model, so check the product page.

Leather Grades: What to Check

These chairs are leather, but the grade isn't the same across every model, so it's worth checking the material on each product page. Only the Renato Cream is described as genuine leather on its title and page. The other chairs — including the other Renato models — are listed simply as leather without a stated grade, so we don't claim they're genuine across the board. Genuine (full-hide) leather is the most hard-wearing and ages attractively; other leather constructions can look similar and cost less but may differ in durability. Colours

The range comes in black and grey (contemporary, hard-wearing neutrals), tan (a warm mid-brown classic) and cream (soft and light, though a pale leather shows marks more, so it rewards regular care). Colour availability depends on the model and current stock, so use the colour filter and live stock to see what's available now. Because on-screen colour can differ from the real leather, a showroom visit is worth it if the exact shade matters.

Where to Put a Recliner Chair

A recliner needs room to move, so plan its position before you buy. Leave clearance behind the chair so the backrest can tilt without hitting the wall (a wall-hugger design needs less, but check the product page), and clearance in front for the footrest to rise. For an electric model, place it within reach of a mains socket and keep the cable tidy and clear of the mechanism. Allow space to walk around it, and think about where the light and the television are if that's what you'll use it for. Measuring the spot — and the reclined footprint, not just the upright one — avoids surprises.

As a general guide, wipe with a clean, slightly damp cloth and buff dry, deal with spills promptly, and avoid harsh cleaners, solvents and abrasive tools. Keep the chair out of prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade and dry leather over time, and away from excessive heat such as radiators. A pale colour like cream shows marks more than a dark shade. For the reclining mechanism, operate it gently, keep the moving parts and any cable clear, and don't overload the footrest.
