What is in this collection

Nine U shape pieces, four in stock. Seven are corner sofas: four fabric high backs from Carnaby and Bishop, two with a matching footstool, and three velvet Sloanes. Two of these are beds, not sofas

The Brixton models are U shape corner beds with under-seat storage. They work as a corner sofa by day, open into a bed for a guest, and hold the bedding underneath so it does not live in a cupboard elsewhere. A U shape against an L shape

The decision worth making first. A U wraps three sides rather than two, so it seats more than an L of similar width and encloses the seating area more fully. What it asks for is more floor: an L tucks into an existing corner, while a U sits as an island or along one long wall with both returns projecting inward. A U shape has no left or right hand version

The one thing that makes a U easier to order than an L. An L comes handed, and getting it wrong is expensive because a corner sofa cannot be turned round after delivery. A U is symmetrical, so there is no orientation to specify. If handedness has put you off ordering a corner sofa online, this is the format that removes the problem. Fabric and velvet are not the same thing

We keep them apart because they look and behave differently. Velvet is a pile fabric: a soft sheen, catching light differently depending which way the pile lies, and needing gentle treatment. What a high back gives you

All four fabric corner sofas here are high back: a taller fixed backrest supporting the shoulders and head rather than stopping at mid-back. Two include a footstool

Both Carnaby models come with a matching footstool; nothing else here does. Worth a thought on a U shape, because a footstool usually ends up in the open mouth of the U rather than in front of one seat, where it doubles as a low table. For coordinated pieces, see our sofa sets collection.

Measuring a U shape

This is the size most often bought too large. Measure all three runs, or the full floor area if the sofa sits as an island, then mark the whole U on your floor with tape and live with it a day. On the two beds, allow the extra floor the bed needs when open. We will not quote dimensions, because exact measurements are not confirmed in our data. Our sofa measuring guide sets out the method.

Getting it into the room

A U shape arrives in sections that connect together, which is why a piece this size clears doorways a single long sofa would not. What matters is the packaged dimension of the largest single section against your narrowest point. Ring us before ordering if you are above ground floor or the stairwell is tight. Care, by material

Flat fabric wants vacuuming with an upholstery tool and blotting from the outside inwards rather than rubbing. Velvet wants a soft brush in one direction and blotting rather than rubbing, which flattens the pile. Keep both out of direct sunlight. Two things specific here: pay attention to the joins between sections, and air the bedding stored inside the Brixtons rather than leaving it shut away. Full guidance is in our care guide.

Delivery

Delivery is free across England and Wales and usually takes 7–10 working days. Our two-person team brings the sections into your chosen ground-floor room and connects them.
